During filming our pre-lim we had the opportunity to notice problems that could occur when filming our film opening, we also had the chance to note down these problems and make sure that we improved our skills so that we didn't make the same mistakes in our film opening.
One of the problems we noticed about our prelim footage was that when we were filming there was a lot of background noise from students in the nearest classroom and from other students filming their pre-lim. When we started filming our thriller opening we made sure that when we had dialogue the road was clear and you could hear everything that was being said by both of the actors. We didn't have to worry about the background noise as much as the road we filmed on was quiet and the sound of cars and buses going by acted as natural sound.
One thing we did do well when filming the prelim was to follow our storyboard that we created before filming. This made things easier and meant we didn't have to re-film scenes as much as other groups did. We made sure to do the same for our thriller opening as we had learnt that coming up with a good storyboard during planning helps filming run more smoothly and efficiently.
A few pictures to show the bad lighting in our pre-lim and the better lighting we had in our chosen location for our thriller opening.
Here layla's head is cut off and this shows how we forgot to stick to the rule of thirds in the pre-lim. |
There were a few shots that we found hard to film when doing our prelim. For example, the over the shoulder shot of me talking to Layla. This shot was successful but it took us a while to be able to film it, also it was hard to keep the fig-rig in place as were in a small room with not much space. When filming our thriller opening we decided to vary what equipment we used. so we often took both the tripod and fig-rig out when filming.
Editing was something I had to get used to as I didn't play a big role in editing our pre-lim and also the editing I did in the pre-lim was quite easy as we didn't have to add sound or titles. However when we had finished filming our thriller and we had to add sound and titles it became more complicated. I was lucky to be in a group where some of the group members knew how to work well with Final cut pro so they explained to me how to use it. Titles were relatively easy to add and I knew how to cut shots and add them onto the timeline from the previous editing during our prelim so that came quite easy to me when editing our thriller opening.
