Editing - Clips, Sound and Titles

In the first week of editing, we mainly focused on having all the right shots were together and placed correctly. I was the editor for the opening as I felt more confident and happy to do it. The rest of the team spent their time looking for sound that could be used as I edited. Although i did receive help and advice from the group to improve  Editing the opening was tedious at times as the split screens had to be in the right places with the same difference between screens. This would make it seem symmetrical. There were a few problems such as not having enough clips or some shots weren't usable. However it didn't look bad as some excellent editing took place! Also, Final Cut did crash a few times which meant all the editing was gone since the last save. I didn't save regularly. Lesson learned.

Order of Titles by Emma
While I was editing, the rest of the group were looking for non-digetic music, so the jogger in the opening could listen to. The music would also be heard by the audience. However it did come to our attention due to our teacher that the music must only be heard when the jogger is on screen. This was frustrating at times, as we thought it would be okay to have it play over the old lady. However we did prevail the situation by replacing silence with the sound recorded. We decided to use the digetic sound recorded throughout the whole opening to make it seem more natural. After constant search for songs, we used the soundtrack of "Let's Go" by Ne-Yo and Calvin Harris. Although I disliked the song at first, it kind of grew on me. But listening to it millions of times, makes me hate it.

The titles were the last thing that was edited in. Emma constructed the order of the titles when i was editing. We decided to have the titles in a simple font but had the job (Director, Producer) in a font size 16 whereas the names(Bob, Jimmy, Ami) were font size 24. The job was above the names so more attention is drawn to the name as it was bigger. The titles were parallel to the split screens. If a split screen went, the titles went. If a split screen appeared, a title would appear. The most difficult thing was the placing of the film title. Our teacher said that it wouldnt be conventional to have one at the end whilst our other teacher said it is conventional. After talking with the group, it became apperent that placing the film title would be risky. Therefore the film title was placed in the middle.
