Thriller films are known to deliver uncertainty, anxiety, and nerve-wracking tension. This gives them an audience who is interested in using there minds to come up with conclusions. Thriller films have a wide audience which is shown through the graph on the right.
Thriller Movie Gender Profile, Base: National Metro Source: Roy Morgan 2009 |
The specific audience for thriller films varies as it depends on the sub genre of the thriller. These are many sub genre's for thrillers such as:
- Psychological Thriller
- Comedy Thriller
- Mystery Thriller
- Crime Thriller
- Action Thriller
- Religious Thriller

However a crime thriller like our film "Young Eyes" has a more specific audience. The sub genre, crime thriller suggests that there may be action along with a mystery. This would specifically attract a male audience as the sub genre is part of a genre that males are interested in. The action and mystery in a crime pulls them in. The age range we are targeting is 16-24, as it features young characters. As the film title has the word "Young" it may bring a more diverse audience, such as young females as well as young males.
After going over the results, it felt like the females were more enthusiastic about crime thrillers as it gave them a "buzz" and they would "enjoy the adrenaline rush". Although the males had an interest in crime thrillers, they seem to prefer other genres like a horror. It could be that a thriller isn't as "thrilling" as a horror. I feel that a crime thriller could have a really diverse audience. This would make "Young Eyes" popular with both males and females.
As "Young Eyes" would come with a reasonable amount of violence and death, I suggest it would be right to to give the film the certificate, "15". This is because we are targeting an audience from "16-24" and younger audiences may feel disturbed by the killings. Also it wouldn't be appropriate for young eyes (pun intended) to see such brutal killings.
