evaluation question 2

How dose your media product represent particular social groups?

Representation is the way a group of people or person is put across to the audience based on a stereotypical wide idea of a particular group of people / person.
In our film opening "young eyes" we have used a few stereotypes that our audience can relate too but have also challenged some to make our film more interesting.

The social groups we have used in "young eyes" are:

  • A elderly woman
  • a male detective (the voice over)
  • teenage male
  • young woman
The character that keeps to the conventions of stereotypes is the detective as he is a male and can tell that his is mature in the way he talks and his approach towards the death. The reason we choose to keep to the conventions of stereotypes for the detective is because the audience would be used to seeing male characters having the higher authority in serious situations like a crime scene and we wanted to keep this part of the opening as serious as possible making it easy to relate.

The character that challenge that conventions of stereotypes is the character Elizabeth who plays the elderly woman, she challenges the conventions because usually elderly woman are represented in a kind and loving way but Elizabeth is represented in a negative way as she is heading towards a mass murderer title. The second character that challenges the conventions of stereotypes is the teenage jogger, this is because we are used to seeing teenage males being represented in a negative not a person who likes to keep their health in check (by jogging), caring for the older generation and never playing . creator gif
