Shot by Shot - Comparison of original sequence and remake.

One major issue we had when filming our remake was lighting. It wasn't until after we had shot some of the scenes that we realised the lighting was extremely dark, making it difficult to see the footage. We re-shot some of it, however, we did not have enough time to re-shoot the whole of the sequence. The storyboard made the task easier as it broke down the sequence into each shot and we had clear description of what we had to do.

In the first few shots, where Tom Cruises character is shown walking among the crowd of people, we asked some students who didn't have a lesson to walk past the camera while we were filming Ami.

In the next shot, the lighting is much better. We filmed Layla walking towards the camera. We made sure we kept to the rule of thirds by ensuring that there was no empty space above Layla and that her face was in the top third.

Here is a comparison of Collateral and our remake, Ami and Tom Cruise are both shot with close up's as they walk towards the camera. During editing, we used slow motion just as they did in Collateral.

Here is the shot of the collision, we used our own bags as props. Again, this shot shows that there must be good lighting while filming, this is something we must remember when making our thriller opening.

Here is a comparison of the over the shoulder shots.

The last part of the opening sequence shows Tom Cruise being tracked from behind, the camera is hand held. We had to shoot this part a few times to make sure that the camera was steady.
