-Action thriller (such as Kill Bill, The Bourne Identity)
-Psychological thriller (such as Memento, Taxi Driver)
-Religious thriller (such as The Ninth Gate, The Da Vinci Code)
-Crime thriller (such as Seven, Reservoir Dogs)
-Disaster thriller (such as Deep Impact, 2012)
-Techno thriller (such as Dangerous Ground, Matrix)
I find psychological thrillers inspiring as they always keep you on edge, the audience are always engaged with the film as suspense is built throughout. Many psychological thrillers contains twists, or keep the audience guessing until the end.
Psychological thrillers often focus on the emotional state of the characters, this is an extremely powerful way of grasping the audience's attention, and example of this is in 'Black Swan'.
Two other examples of psychological thrillers that keep the audience guessing are 'Seven' and 'What Lies Beneath'.
Many psychological thrillers need to be watched various times to be understood fully or can be interpreted in different ways. I think this is important in a successful thriller as the audience will continue to talk about the film after they have watched it.
Psychological thrillers could influence our film opening by using the element of mystery to grasp the audience at the beginning of the film. The opening of the film should be intriguing without revealing information.
